Avide je me fuis. Hostile je me tente.

MERMAID'S SONG 4
O say, whose craft has wrought the top crest and the span
With starts, with sudden breaks, with stirs and with eddies
Over the chasm that engulfs the uttered cry?
Arched against the night swelling it, the billow
Of the strong song with which it mingles does not know.
Deaf sea, who lulled me but for a while, you haunt me.
Did I become the conch where sounds the gaping night?
Am I the flow that so many stars have modelled?
Greedy, I flee myself. I lure myself, hostile.
On the dune a gleam, suddenly.
A spinning dance within my night turns like a key.
