XX DIMANCHE

XX SUNDAY
The bell has rung. The church re-opens to the light.
And in rushes a swarm of gay, blue butterflies
Which shudder and flutter their wings, leaving behind
Festive perfumes. And now, in everybody's eyes
Endless Sunday sparkles. On their arms the housewives,
Heavily burdened, bear the bread and the Sunday
Cakes and adjust their steps to fit the bell's last chimes:
Fresh minuets like those manor musicians play.
Then the bell keeps silent. All vanishes. The pub
Fills up with flower hats and festive Sunday clothes
And the Church square is soon deserted where the sun
Looks for a face on which a last fond kiss it blows.
