XVIII L'OISEAU MIGRATEUR Ni voix, ni vent. Michel Galiana (c) 1990

XVIII THE MIGRANT BIRD You hear no voice, no wind, not even the faint light. You reached the limit where hum and buzz keep quiet. Your wings overfly void from where is vanishing The presence of your well-known streams and homelike springs. Over a rimless land, thread-spun spans of terror. Your words dry. Your paths cave in. Furious ardour Freezes as dawns above all the void filling you A growing light - both incorruptible and new. When a sound sleep reveals genuine watchfulness, And cry is what is called silence anywhere else, On these borders where you at first are flown away, Where no falconer dares to launch his bird of prey, You shall have to face a purebred bird: your madness!
